When entertaining, don't underestimate the power of the ice scoop!

That's right, the little metal scoop used for putting ice into drinks is one of the most powerful tools within the bartending arsenal. For the bartender, a missing scoop means no cold drinks (without a proper replacement). 'Proper' means plastic such as a bowl or spoon while improper would be a mug, cup or glass and here's why...

When I first began bartending my ice scoop went missing, in a pinch I grabbed a highball glass as a substitute. This worked dandy, until it shattered and shards of glass scattered throughout the entire area! Not only was the clean up time consuming but it was an avoidable mistake. As a bartender it was embarassing to be responsible for such a disaster...(lowers head)...I knew better.

Heads up - if it could happen to me then it could happen to you ;) It also took about an hour to empty the entire area, get it cleaned up and restocked with fresh items. Not to mention all of the opened foodie and drink products such as bar snacks, drink garnishes (celery, olives and cherries etc.), mixed juices and every single ice cube needed to be tossed in the garbage!

...and that's why bartenders use metal ice scoops because without them, they have the power to make your life miserable! ;)
